Common causes of a stiff or painful neck are sleeping in an awkward position and using a computer keyboard for a long period of time. Anxiety and stress can also cause tension in your neck muscles, which can lead to neck pain.
However, it is not obvious what causes neck pain and doctors will refer to it as ‘non-specific’.
