Lumbago causes mild to severe pain in the area of the lower back. The pain may be quite severe and sudden or chronic if it has lasted more than three months.
- Pain in lower part of the back that sometimes makes its’ way to the buttocks, the groin or the back of the thigh.
- Limitation in movement of the spine.
- Tense spasm of the muscles surrounding the spine and causing a stiff back.
- The back may tilt to one side causing a limp or a change in posture.
Sometimes patients can feel a tingling sensation or numbness in the back or buttocks or leg, which may reach the foot. This is called sciatica.
