Whiplash is a neck injury caused by sudden movement of the head in the forwards, backwards or sideways direction.
It often occurs after a sudden impact such as a road traffic accident. The movement of the head damages the tendons and ligaments in the neck.
Common symptoms of whiplash include neck pain and stiffness, tender neck muscles, slow and painful neck movements and headaches .
