What is osteo-arthritis and symptoms
Osteoarthritis is a condition that affects the joints. In the UK, it is the most common type of arthritis , and around 1 million people see their doctor about it every year.
Three key characteristics of osteoarthritis are:
- Inflammation of the tissues in and around the joints
- Damage to cartilage - the smooth and strong surface that lines the bones, allowing joints to move easily, without friction
- Growths that develop around the edge of the joints
The main symptoms of osteoarthritis include joint pain and stiffness. You may have difficulty moving the joint affected.
