What is Ankylosing Spondylitis and symptoms

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a type of long term arthritis that affects parts of the spine, including ligaments, bones and muscles.

The symptoms vary, but most people experience stiffness and back pain. The condition can be severe, with around one in ten people being at risk of long-term disability.

Ankylosing spondylitis usually develops between the ages of 15 and 35 and rarely starts in old age, although it can occur at any times from teenage years onwards. Men are at higher risk than women with it being around three times more common in males.

If you think you may be experiencing symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis then please book an appointment using our Booking Form.
